History of Swedish massage

Swedish massage was introduced by Peter Henrik Ling. He was a medical practitioner with a strong background in gymnastics. Ling used some gymnastic movements like petrissage (lifting and kneading muscles) and effleurage (long gliding motions). All the motions aim at increasing blood flow to muscles around the body and achieve relaxation.

Today, Swedish massage is recognized globally. It aims to provide relaxation to muscles and improve flow as the massage motion are done always towards the heart.
