Make your bed

What daily habit do you do that improves your quality of life?

The first thing I do when I wake up is make my bed. It prevents me from staying on the phone and mindlessly scrolling. It also prepares me for the next task of the day, washing my face and then going through my emails and task planners.

Why ladies get sugar cravings during that time of the month

What was the last thing you searched for online? Why were you looking for it?

I was genuinely curious, and I was glad there was a blogger who could answer the question šŸ˜….

I was craving chocolate muffins, caramel popcorn, cherry juice, and every sweet thing I could think of. It is very unlike me because lately, I have been health cautious, but somehow, once a month, my sugar craving skyrockets, and eating cantaloupes wouldn’t help.

I learned it was because of our hormones; our bodies are trying to increase serotonin levels. During that time of the month, our serotonin levels are low, so having sugar would help us. The low serotonin explains the bursts of tears and why we get mad at the boys šŸŒĀ and everyone in between.Ā

I also noticed there is an answer for every question thanks to bloggers. I am so glad I am a blogger. I have written 100 blog posts on my blog page, omg. I feel like crying because I started MABS when I was at a really low place, and I am so happy I kept writing. Thank you, Jesus. I am hopeful for the best.Ā

Ladies, every time you crave a chocolate bar or something sweet on your period, I think you should go for it. You deserve a little extra serotonin.

How to Keep Your Lash Extensions Clean and Safely Remove Them

Dirty lashes are not cute at all. You need to clean your lashes so they look fresh. This guide will teach you how to clean your lashes and also how to remove them.

The first step in cleaning your eyelash extensions is choosing the right cleanser. It’s essential to use a product specifically formulated for lash extensions. Regular facial cleansers or makeup removers, especially oil-based ones, can break down the adhesive and cause your extensions to fall out prematurely.

Look for a water-based, lash-safe cleanser. These products are designed to gently remove dirt, oil, and makeup without compromising the bond of the adhesive. They’re also free from harsh chemicals that could irritate your eyes.

You also need to clean your lashes everyday. Here is how to do clean your lash extensions:

Step 1: Remove MakeupĀ Ā

If you wear eye makeup, start by carefully removing it. Use a lash-safe makeup remover or micellar water on a cotton pad, and gently wipe around the eyes without rubbing the lash line.

Step 2: Apply the CleanserĀ Ā

Dispense a small amount of your lash-safe cleanser onto a clean brush or your fingertips. Gently apply the cleanser to your lashes, using upward strokes from the base to the tips. Be gentle to avoid tugging or pulling.

Step 3: Rinse ThoroughlyĀ Ā

Rinse your lashes with lukewarm water to remove the cleanser. Tilt your head back and allow the water to run over your lashes, or gently dab away the cleanser with a clean, damp cloth.

Step 4: Dry Your LashesĀ Ā

After rinsing, pat your face dry with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing your lashes. Let your lashes air dry, or use a fan to speed up the drying process. Once dry, use a clean spoolie brush to gently comb through your lashes, keeping them neat and separated.

Avoid Oil-Based Products

Oil is the enemy of lash extensions. It can weaken the adhesive bond in makeup remover, moisturizer, or even eye cream, leading to premature lash loss. Check the ingredients of your skincare and makeup products and opt for oil-free versions whenever possible.

Additionally, avoid touching your face throughout the day, as the natural oils from your fingers can transfer to your lashes. If you need to adjust your lashes, use a clean spoolie brush instead of your hands.

Your eyelash extensions are delicate, so treat them with care. Avoid rubbing your eyes, tugging your lashes, or sleeping on your face. These actions can cause your extensions to become tangled, bent, or even fall out.

When washing your face, be gentle around your eye area. Use a soft cloth and avoid direct, harsh scrubbing. When drying your face, pat your skin dry rather than rub it with a towel.

Brush Your Lashes Daily

Brushing your lashes daily helps keep them looking neat and prevents them from tangling. Use a clean spoolie brush and gently comb through your lashes each morning. Start at the base of your lashes and work your way to the tips. This simple step helps maintain the shape and fluffiness of your extensions.

While cleaning your lashes regularly is essential, keeping them dry between washes is just as crucial. Excess moisture can weaken the adhesive bond, leading to premature lash loss. Avoid excessive exposure to water, such as long showers, swimming, or steam rooms. If your lashes get wet, gently blot them with a towel and let them air dry.

Also, be cautious when using setting sprays or face mists, as these can add unnecessary moisture to your lashes. If you use these products, cover your eyes with a hand or a tissue to protect your lashes.

Additional Tips for Long-Lasting, Clean Lashes

One of the benefits of lash extensions is that you don’t need mascara. However, if you need to apply it, use a water-based, extension-safe mascara and apply it sparingly. Avoid waterproof mascara, as it can be difficult to remove and may damage your extensions.

How to Remove Your Eyelashes (Tip: Don’t!)

You know the sweet feeling you get when you pull out a lash extension? I felt good until I realized I had also pulled out my natural lash. Oh, the terror. So if you’re wondering, “How do you remove eyelashes yourself?” You’ve come to the right place.Ā

You should only remove your eyelash extensions yourself if you are trained to do so.

Why you shouldn’t remove your eyelash extensions

Ā The adhesive used to apply lash extensions is stronger than the glue in your average false eyelashes. When you attempt to remove extensions at home, you risk pulling out your natural lashes with them. This can lead to sparse lashes, breakage, and even long-term damage to your lash line.

A friend of mine told me how she pulled out so many natural eyelashes that her lash tech had to send her back when she wanted a new set. Her lash tech asked her to come back after a few weeks because her natural lashes broke and were sparse.

Another reason is your eyes are sensitive, and improper removal techniques can lead to irritation, redness, or an infection. If glue residue or stray lashes get into your eyes, it can cause significant discomfort and require medical attention.

Professional lash technicians are trained to remove extensions carefully and evenly. DIY removal often results in patchy lashes, which can be unsightly and make applying makeup or new extensions challenging.

Given these risks, it’s clear that removing your lash extensions isn’t the best idea. But if you’re still determined, here’s what you need to know.

How to Remove Eyelash Extensions Yourself (But Really, Don’t!)

If you’re still set on doing it yourself, the following steps can help minimize damage. However, remember that this method isn’t foolproof, and the safest option is to visit a professional.

Step 1:Ā Steam Your Face

Start by steaming your face to help loosen the lash glue. Boil some water, pour it into a bowl, and lean over it with a towel draped over your head to trap the steam. Stay there for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 2:Ā Apply an Oil-Based Cleanser

After steaming, apply an oil-based cleanser or coconut oil to your lash line. Oil helps break down the adhesive. Gently massage the oil into your lashes, careful not to tug or pull.

Step 3:Ā Gently Wipe Off the Extensions

Use a cotton pad or clean spoolie to wipe or brush off the extensions gently. If they don’t come off quickly, don’t force them—this is a sign that the glue hasn’t fully broken down.

Step 4:Ā Rinse and Clean

Once you’ve removed as many extensions as possible, rinse your face with warm water and gently cleanse your eyes with a mild, lash-safe cleanser.

Step 5:Ā Moisturize

After removal, it’s essential to condition your natural lashes with a lash serum or castor oil to help them recover from the ordeal.

How to Take Eyelashes Off for Beginners

For beginners, it’s important to stress that removing lashes yourself is risky. If you’re new to lash extensions, the best advice is to seek professional removal. However, if you must try it at home, follow the above steps with even more caution. Beginners are more likely to damage their natural lashes due to inexperience, so patience and gentleness are key.

How Do You Get a Hidden Eyelash Out of Your Eye?

It’s not uncommon for a stray eyelash to find its way into your eye, causing irritation and discomfort.

Always wash your hands thoroughly to avoid introducing bacteria into your eye.Ā Sometimes, blinking rapidly can help dislodge the eyelash. It may also cause your eye to water, which can flush the eyelash out.

If blinking doesn’t work, use sterile saline solution or eyedrops to flush out the eyelash.

If you can see the eyelash, you might be able to remove it using a clean, damp Q-tip or your clean finger. Be extremely gentle to avoid scratching your eye.

How to Remove Glued Eyelashes

If you’re dealing with traditional glued-on false eyelashes, the removal process is more straightforward but still requires care:

Step 1:Ā Soften the Glue

Dip a cotton swab in an oil-based makeup remover or coconut oil and gently rub it along the lash band to soften the glue.

Step 2:Ā Peel Off Gently

Slowly peel the lash strip off your eyelid from the outer corner. If you feel resistance, apply more oil and give it a moment to work.

Step 3:Ā Clean Your Lashes

After removing the lashes, clean your eyelids and natural lashes to remove any remaining glue.Ā

Step 4:Ā Store or Dispose

If you plan to reuse the false lashes, clean them with rubbing alcohol and store them in their original packaging.

Conclusion

Keeping your eyelash extensions clean is essential for maintaining their beauty and longevity. You can enjoy stunning lashes that last longer and stay healthier with the right products and techniques. Remember, clean lashes are not just about appearance—they’re also about keeping your eyes healthy and preventing potential issues down the line. These tips keep your extensions looking fresh, complete, and fabulous daily.Ā

While removing your eyelashes at home is possible, the risks often outweigh the benefits. Lash extensions are a luxury and deserve professional care from start to finish. So, the next time you’re tempted to DIY, consider booking an appointment with your lash technician.Ā

Importance of Clean water

Clean water is safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, and other everyday uses. Access to clean water is essential for life. Without it, we cannot survive, stay healthy, or maintain basic hygiene.

I am fortunate enough to live in a building with clean water, but sadly, this is not a reality for some Africans. Many people buy water from dirty sources, which leads to infections like typhoid and cholera.

Water is essential for human health, sanitation, and economic development. It is at the core of sustainable development and plays a key role in reducing poverty, promoting health, and ensuring environmental sustainability.

Access to clean water remains a significant global challenge. About 2.2 billion people globally lack access to safely managed drinking water services. 4.2 billion people lack safely managed sanitation services, directly impacting water quality and putting people at risk of severe health issues.

Waterborne diseases, predominantly affecting children, are reported to result in over 1.5 million deaths each year. This blog post outlines the significance of clean water while offering insights into the challenges and actionable solutions.

How to identify clean water

Clean water should be clear, odorless, and free from particles. However, some harmful substances are invisible, so testing water with a certified kit or relying on treated sources is crucial. Even if water looks clean, it might still contain harmful bacteria or chemicals that can cause health problems. Clean water is not just about having enough water; it is about ensuring it is safe and accessible everywhere.

Importance of Clean Water

Clean water is free from harmful contaminants such as pathogens, chemicals, heavy metals, and waste products. Access to clean water reduces the incidence of waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid.

Sanitation and Hygiene

Clean water is vital for maintaining hygiene. It allows people to wash hands, clean food, and maintain sanitary conditions, which is crucial in preventing infections.

Economic Impact

Clean water supports agriculture, industry, and energy production. Water scarcity or pollution can lead to economic downturns in affected regions.

Ecosystems

Healthy aquatic ecosystems rely on clean water. Pollution and contamination can disrupt ecosystems, harm wildlife, and reduce biodiversity.

Waterborne Diseases

Waterborne diseases are illnesses caused by microorganisms transmitted through contaminated water. Drinking or coming into contact with water polluted with harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and parasites can cause diseases. These diseases are a significant public health issue, particularly in regions with limited clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene practices. They can affect anyone but are especially dangerous for children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

Some common waterborne diseases include:

  • Cholera
  • Typhoid Fever
  • Dysentery
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis E
  • Giardiasis

How Do Waterborne Diseases Spread?

Waterborne diseases spread when people consume or come into contact with water contaminated by human or animal feces. This contamination can occur in various ways:

Poor sanitation

Waste can mix with drinking water sources in areas where sewage systems are lacking or inadequate.

In many developing countries, people are forced to defecate in the open due to the lack of toilets, leading to the contamination of nearby water bodies.

Polluted water sources

Rivers, lakes, and wells can become polluted by agricultural runoff, industrial waste, or untreated sewage.

In places without proper water treatment facilities, people rely on untreated water from wells, streams, or rivers, which can harbor dangerous pathogens.

How To Prevent Waterborne Diseases

Preventing waterborne diseases requires clean water, proper sanitation, and good hygiene practices.

  • Access to clean water
  • Improved sanitation
  • Hygiene education
  • Household water treatment.
  • Vaccination

How To Purify Water?

Getting clean water involves removing contaminants and making it safe to drink. Different methods are used to clean water depending on the location and resources available. Here are five common ways to clean water and ensure it is safe:

Boiling

Boiling water is one of the simplest and most effective ways to make it safe. Harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites are killed by heating water to a rolling boil for at least one minute. This method is often used in emergencies or where other treatments are not available.

Filtration

Water filters commonly remove impurities like dirt, sand, and harmful organisms. Filters can range from simple household devices to complex systems purifying large water volumes. Some advanced filters even remove heavy metals and chemicals.

Chlorination

Chlorine is added to water to kill bacteria and viruses. It’s a standard method used in municipal water treatment plants. Chlorination is also used in many developing countries because it’s affordable and effective. However, it must be carefully managed to avoid adding too much chlorine, which can be harmful.

UV light treatment

Ultraviolet (UV) light disinfects water by inactivating harmful microorganisms. This method is becoming popular in both developed and developing regions because it’s effective and doesn’t add chemicals to the water. Portable UV devices are also available for individual use during travel or camping.

Reverse osmosis

This method pushes water through a special membrane that blocks contaminants, including salt, bacteria, and heavy metals. Reverse osmosis is commonly used in desalination plants to turn seawater into drinkable water. It’s also used in homes for extra purification, especially in areas with poor water quality.

Benefits of Drinking Clean Water

Drinking clean water is essential for overall health and well-being. Ensuring consistent intake of clean water is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to enhance health and prevent disease.

Boosts Physical Performance and brain function

Proper hydration contributes to optimal physical performance. Insufficient hydration can impact concentration, alertness, and short-term memory, and it may also increase the frequency of headaches.

Helps in Digestion and Detoxification

Water aids digestion by dissolving fats and soluble fiber, allowing these substances to pass through more easily. Additionally, water helps flush out waste products from the body, aiding in liver and kidney function and preventing constipation.

Improves Skin Health

Proper hydration can help keep your skin hydrated and may contribute to a healthy glow and elasticity. It can also help reduce the signs of aging.

Facilitates Nutrient Absorption

Water is essential for dissolving nutrients and minerals and making them accessible to the body. It also helps transport these nutrients to different organs.

Prevents Overall Dehydration

Chronic dehydration can lead to more severe health issues such as kidney stones, hypertension, and impaired cognitive function.

Conclusion

Clean water is a basic human right and crucial for life, health, and the environment. Although there are many challenges, from pollution to climate change, we can make a difference by being mindful of our water usage and supporting efforts to provide clean water and sanitation to everyone.

Ensuring that everyone has access to clean, safe, and affordable water is not only a matter of health but also of fairness, dignity, and justice. Together, we can help create a world where everyone can access safe and clean water.

Shopping

Tell us about the last thing you got excited about.

It has been a while since I got excited about something. However, I am always excited when it’s time to go to the mall to shop for new clothes and makeup.

The last time I went shopping, I bought the most beautiful dress and a cute jumpsuit. I’ve been rocking them throughout the summer. School is about to start, and it’s time to go shopping for jeans and jackets.

One of the best parts about shopping is the food. I wonder if I am the only one who loves eating after shopping. I usually don’t go shopping alone. I go with my friends, we can share a pizza or get some wings and drinks.

The worst part about shopping is struggling to find the perfect size and seeing that you do not fit into the clothes you like. It is so heartbreaking, but I always manage to squeeze in or find something that works.

Oh, and then there are the people who don’t want to buy anything but are just there to see the things they like or to people-watch. Yup, people-watching is a thing; I do it, too. I like seeing what other girls are wearing so I can get outfit inspiration.

I love shopping, to bad I can’t always go shopping. But when I do, I am super stoked.

Love

Where did your name come from?

My name is real name is Jametta, although most people know me as Madame Ann šŸ˜…, which is what MABS means Madame Ann’s Beauty Shop šŸ˜„

Anywho, when I asked my parents what Jametta meant, they said it was a combination of their names: James + Esther = Jamesther.

They were not thrilled with the name Jamesther for their baby girl, so they shortened it to Jametta.

I have not met another person named Jametta 🤭, but when I do, I will hug her because Jametta is not a common name.

I love my name, though it is a story of love and sheer creativity. Thinking about it, I have all the qualities of my parents: my mom’s brilliance and loyalty and my father’s giving heart and courage.

If my kids asked me what Jametta means, I would tell them it means someone brilliant, loyal, giving, and courageous.

My middle name is Anietie, and it means Who’s like God? I am from Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. I am a testimony to the name Anietie because I have come to understand that there is no one like God.
