How To Cope with Anxiety

Today, we will talk about something that affects so many of us yet often stays hidden behind brave faces and forced smiles: anxiety. Raise your hand if you have anxiety. Do you know that feeling when your heart races, your mind spirals, and you can’t catch your breath? Yeah, you are not alone; my hands are raised, too.

I find that reading the bible helps me reduce my anxiety, so here is a link to a colouring book with biblical inspirational quotes. Click here

Whether it’s the butterflies before a big presentation, the nagging worry that keeps you up at night, or the overwhelming panic that hits out of nowhere, anxiety comes in many forms and doesn’t discriminate.

In this article, we’ll break it all down. We’ll explore anxiety, explore its causes, highlight its symptoms, and, most importantly, share some solid strategies for coping with it.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural stress response. It’s that feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. Think of it as your body’s alarm system, alerting you to potential danger.

A little bit of anxiety can be a good thing—it can keep you on your toes and ready for action. But when anxiety becomes a constant companion, it can be overwhelming and interfere with your daily life.

First, let’s distinguish between normal anxiety and anxiety disorders. Normal anxiety is a fleeting feeling that everyone experiences from time to time. It might hit you before an important meeting, a big test, or a first date. It’s situational and usually goes away once the stressful event is over.

Anxiety disorders, on the other hand, are more intense and persistent. They can cause significant distress and make it hard to function in everyday life. If your anxiety is constant, out of proportion to the situation, or leads to avoidance of activities, it might be an anxiety disorder.

Common Types of Anxiety Disorders

Here are some of the most common types of anxiety disorders:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
  • Panic Disorder
  • Social Anxiety Disorder
  • Specific Phobias
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Understanding the different types of anxiety disorders is the first step in recognizing what you or someone else might be going through. Remember, seeking help and talking about what you’re experiencing is okay. Anxiety is common, and you’re not alone in this.

Symptoms of Anxiety

The Impact of Anxiety

Anxiety doesn’t just exist in a vacuum—it has a significant impact on various aspects of your life. Whether it’s your daily routine, relationships, or long-term health, the effects of anxiety can be far-reaching and, if left untreated, can lead to severe consequences. It can affect your work, productivity, academic performance, daily routine, and sleep patterns.

Recognizing the impact of anxiety on your life is the first step toward addressing it. It’s essential to seek help and find strategies that work for you. Whether through self-help techniques, professional therapy, or a combination of both, managing anxiety can significantly improve your quality of life.

Remember, you don’t have to face anxiety alone. Support is available, and with the right approach, it’s possible to regain control and lead a fulfilling life.

How to cope with anxiety

Managing anxiety effectively often requires a multi-faceted approach. While professional help is crucial for many, there are also numerous self-help techniques and lifestyle changes that can make a significant difference.

Mindfulness and Meditation

Practicing mindfulness helps you stay grounded in the present moment, reducing the tendency to worry about the future or dwell on the past. Meditation can calm your mind and reduce anxiety symptoms. Try guided meditation or mindfulness apps to get started.

You can also use quote coloring books to help you meditate and remain mindful. I created a quote coloring book with bible verses to help you meditate on God’s word and relieve anxiety. Click here to access the book.

Professional Help

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective treatments for anxiety. It helps you identify and challenge negative thought patterns and behaviors.

We also have a listening service. If you need someone to talk to and pray with, click here.

When someone shares their anxiety with you, listen without judgment and validate their feelings. Sometimes, knowing someone cares can make a big difference. Gently encourage them to seek professional help if they haven’t already. Offer to help them find a therapist or accompany them to appointments.

Conclusion

Supporting someone with anxiety requires empathy, patience, and understanding. By listening, validating their feelings, and encouraging healthy habits, you can significantly impact their journey. Remember, professional help is often crucial; your role is to support them in seeking and adhering to treatment. And don’t forget to take care of yourself—supporting someone else is much easier when you’re also in a good place mentally and emotionally.

In this article, we will be discussing diligence in detail. We will also provide tips to help us become more diligent.

Diligence is the final heavenly virtue in our series. Check out the other posts for detailed information on the other six virtues.

A diligent person does their work efficiently, paying attention to the little details. Diligent people are successful because they understand that the power to achieve their goals is in their hands. Diligent people work without passing out their responsibilities to anyone

To be diligent, one has to believe that work is good and have strong work ethics. The best work ethics are integrity, honesty, discipline, respect, and accountability.

Tips on becoming more diligent

  • Be committed to your work, focus your energy on it
  • Have a routine that works and stick to it
  • Set achievable goals everyday
  • Go through your work, check for any mistakes, and if possible, fix the mistakes immediately.

Overall, diligence produces successful people because they value their work and will try to complete it, even if it’s complicated. Diligence requires you to manage your time and money so you can meet deadlines in a cost-efficient way.

Diligence is a personality trait that allows people to do their best in what they do and makes sure to complete it.

This completes our series on the seven heavenly virtues; humility, charity, chastity, gratitude, temperance, patience, and diligence. We must pray to God to enable us to have these virtues. Without the heavenly virtues, we can not claim to be children of the light.

All the virtues work hand in hand. For example, to be diligent, you must be patient. To be patient, you must be temperate. To be temperate, you must be humble and love everyone.

What do you think is the most important heavenly virtue? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Patience

Are you a patient person? No? We feel impatient when we realize it takes us longer to reach our goal than we anticipated.

Today we will discuss the sixth heavenly virtue, Patience. We will discuss what true patience is and provide tips to help us become more patient.

Patience is the ability to tolerate delays in results we expect without being anxious or aggressive. Patience is the ability to wait for long-term outcomes and results.

When we are patient, we can analyze situations beyond what they seem. And with the new understanding, we become resourceful and have better self-control. For example, one must wait weeks or months to get results when applying for a visa. Imagine the visa process running longer than it needs to; what will you do? A patient person will call to understand the situation and wait. An impatient person might go create a scene at the embassy.

With patience comes empathy. People appreciate patient people because of their kindness, self-control, and positive mindset.

Patient people also seem to have inner peace and confidence. The three qualities of patience are confidence, extrospection, and decisiveness. If we become patient, we will be wiser and more successful in our daily activities.

Patience calls us to redefine our priorities and reclaim our time. It is the most helpful skill, with patience we learn to live happier lives. “Good things come to those who wait.”

Why is Patience the key to success?

Patience allows us to practice self-control. It keeps us in check of our anxieties and desires. When we are patient, we give ourselves time to understand our emotions and enable us to remain put together. As a result, patient people have a sense of gratitude, temperance, and love, making them more successful.

How to become more patient?

  • Accept your present situation.
  • Choose to be in the moment, be mindful of your surroundings
  • Build tolerance for uncomfortable events
  • Don’t take things too seriously, be playful
  • Understand your emotions; what are your triggers?
  • Become an active listener
  • Have compassion for people around you
  • Realize that there are some things you cannot control
  • Learn to calm yourself down by taking long deep breaths

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”

Patience is the ability to wait on God and wait for results while maintaining good poise. Therefore, we must pray for the grace to become more patient so we can be successful in our activities.

Tomorrow, we will discuss the last Heavenly virtue; stay tuned.

Temperance

Do you know what temperance is? How would you define it? No idea? That’s why you need to read this article.

Today we will discuss the fifth heavenly virtue, Temperance. We will discuss its definition and provide tips to become more temperate.

Temperance emanates from the Latin word temperate, which means “restrain.” Temperance is the ability to deny ourselves pleasures.

We must be moderately attracted to food, alcohol, extravagant clothes, and sex. The Saints define temperance as the mind’s disposition to bind its passions.

A temperate person applies moderation in their thoughts, action, and feeling. For example, we can fast and abstain from meat, sex or alcohol through temperance.

Temperance is also self-restraint from anger, gossip, and envy.

An example of a temperate person in the bible is Daniel. Even when he was offered the finest meats and wines in Babylon, he chose to restrain himself. Daniel consumed a vegetarian diet and was considered the best of his peers.

Don’t get me wrong; I am not saying we should all forfeit meat and eat only vegetables. However, it is good to deny ourselves the pleasure of meat, even for a short time. Catholics do it during Lent; other religions also have ways of remaining temperate.

As I said, temperance is not just about food but also about restraining our childish nature of rage. Proverbs admits that self-control is one of the most important traits we should have. “Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding”

How do we practice temperance?

We must try to be temperate every day. Like all heavenly virtues, we must ask God for help to be temperate. These are some tips you can try to practice temperance.

  • No snacking between meals
  • Eat with friends and families
  • Savor your food, eat slowly
  • Don’t buy takeouts
  • Drink less caffeine and energy drinks
  • Meditate
  • Don’t burst out your emotions

Why is temperance necessary in our lives?

Temperance is a life skill. It applies to how we spend money, quality of relationships, and time management.

Additionally, a lack of temperance causes addiction. We need God to save us from addiction. If we don’t have temperance, our lives can become miserable.

Many of us are addicted to social media. We mindlessly scroll for hours, procrastinating school or work. We need to start practicing temperance to break from social media addiction. The only way to become temperate is through prayer and self-denial.

Why is temperance necessary for leaders?

Before we can lead people, we must lead ourselves.

People should see us as role models because of how we interact, manage our finances and invest in our time.

Temperance is self-control, a voluntary effort to deny yourselves from wants. We need to pray to God for the ability to be temperate. Only God can bless us with temperance.

Gratitude

Thank you, Lord, for Life and learning; Thank you, dear readers, for taking the time to read this article.

So far, We have discussed three heavenly virtues, humility, charity, and chastity. Today, we will discuss a famous heavenly virtue, Gratitude. Then, we will talk about what it truly means to be grateful, the benefits of Gratitude, and how we can be grateful.

Gratitude is being thankful for the goodness we received.

It is fascinating how the heavenly virtues work hand in hand. I mean, how can one be grateful without being humble? Gratitude involves acknowledging that we are not the source of the goodness we receive.

Gratitude is a positive attitude associated with many social, emotional, and spiritual benefits. For example, our partners/ friends will likely help us again if we appreciate their good deeds.

A simple word like ‘thanks,’ let’s say to a lenient policeman, can go a long way. The results of Gratitude are warmth, kindness, and more forms of generosity.

A person is more likely to help you again if you show Gratitude the first time. Imagine what new things God will do if you show appreciation for answered prayers.

Mental health studies classify gratitude into three types. The first one is a  temporary state of gratitude, for example, when one receives a gift. The second is a grateful mood which may fluctuate. And the last is the grateful personality.

People with grateful personalities have a grateful disposition most of the time. In addition, people with grateful dispositions live longer and are happier. Therefore, we must learn to have a grateful personality.

How to practice gratitude?

The best way to practice gratitude is to enjoy the moment and absorb the good things around us. Thank the freshness of the water you drink, and be grateful for the roof over your head, for good health, safety and family.

Another great way to practice Gratitude is to appreciate people who make an effort to support you.

Why is Gratitude so important?

Gratitude helps us have more positive emotions, cherish good experiences, and improve our faith in God and humanity.

What are the benefits of Gratitude?

  • It makes us live happier lives.
  • It reduces emotional stress.
  • It improves our self-confidence.
  • It helps us become stronger.
  • It helps us sleep better.
  • It improves our physical health
  • It improves our interpersonal relationships
  • It makes us better leaders
  • It helps us find more meaning in our work

Gratitude means to be thankful. We have so much to gain from being grateful. First, it benefits our whole being and relationships with God and people.

Tomorrow, we will discuss temperance. Gratitude is the 4th heavenly virtue; join us as we discuss the rest of the virtues throughout the week.

What are you grateful for? Comment below.

Chastity

Let me start this article by asking a sensitive question. When was the last time you had sex? Are you married to the person you had sex with?

Don’t worry. This is a safe place, no judging here.

Today we will talk about chastity. We will discuss all the details you need to know about being chaste, its importance, and what you can gain from being celibate.

Chastity means purity. It is the voluntary practice of abstaining from extramarital and all forms of sex. Examples of chaste people are virgins and faithful married couples.

Chaste people are pure in thought, words, and action. Psychology says our thoughts, activities, and comments are interpolated. Anything we do originates from our thoughts.

When we break the Law of Chastity, we sin against ourselves and our Higher calling. It is easier to pardon, punish or point fingers at our sins, but let’s not forget our purpose. Our purpose is to raise the vibrations of the Earth. We cannot wallow in the lower energies if we want to raise the vibration.

Science proved that virgins have happier lives; for example, they have less emotional damage from failed relationships, less chances of STDs, and increased marital stability. Fortunately, there is still hope for us who are not virgins if we can volunteer for celibacy.

How do you practice chastity?

  • If you want to be chaste, the first thing you need is grace. So pray for the grace to be chaste.
  • Connect with friends who are on the same celibacy journey
  • Inform your partner of your decision and take things slow
  • Only date a person if you want to marry them
  • Avoid temptations, no kissing, no masturbation
  • Keep your thought and words pure

How do married couples practice chastity?

When we get married,  chastity is still essential. We must stay loyal to our partners and not overdo the freedom. We must keep our bodily integrity and avoid objectifying it.

Why is chastity so important?

Many choose to be celibate for non-religious purposes. They become chaste to focus on work, school, or projects. The new focus proves that we can achieve bigger things when we put our minds to it.

In some religions, priests and women must be chaste so they do not pollute themselves.

We must respect our bodies enough to recognize that premarital and extramarital sex is actions against our Higher self.

If we engage in sinful sex, we cannot raise the Earth’s vibrations. We must strive to ascend to a new level where we understand the spiritual aspects of life on Earth. Sex is too simple.

Follow the steps in the article to become chaste and watch how the universe thanks you.

Charity

Have you ever been in a situation where you needed help? Do you remember being grateful that someone took the time to listen and help you?

Yesterday, we discussed the mother of all heavenly virtues, humility. Today we will discuss Charity. Charity means to love someone else. Charity is the ability to be generous to people.

On my first day in a new city, I got lost. I didn’t have wifi or a sim to call the hotel about my situation, so I attempted to ask people to help me call the hotel. Many people avoided me, and some laughed at me, calling me a silly tourist, but I remember the man that helped me. I walked up to him with a teary eye and asked him to call the hotel; he did without asking anything in return and without laughing. He couldn’t speak English well but understood and lent me his phone. That is charity—the ability to help others without getting anything in return.

Charity is giving to the needy, helping a silly tourist, and feeding a hungry bird.

It is through charity that we express gratitude for life. If you are in a position to help someone, help them.

The world can be such a cold place, but it is through charity that we share our warmth with others.

Do you believe that everyone deserves a better life?

Our time on Earth is limited. Our wisdom, beauty, and money are temporary things. The only permanent thing is our actions toward other people.

People say that when you help someone, the person might turn around to hurt you. Why should we let the fear of getting negative results stop us from helping people who need help? The whole point is to help without expecting anything in return.

Another concept I want to bring up is the part where the Bible said, “So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that your giving may be secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

When we do anything for anybody, we should not show off; this means no pictures or gossip.

“Though I speak with the tongues of men and angels and have not charity, I have become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Charity is the type of love you give to all, even to those who have hurt you. Read that again. The person who irritates you the most deserves your love too.

Charity helps us to fight greed. With charity, we can make Earth a better place for all.

Keep following us as we discuss all the heavenly virtues. Tomorrow, we will discuss chastity.

Humility

Humility means freedom from pride. It is one of the heavenly virtues. The word “humility” emanates from the Latin word “humus,” which means earth. Therefore, Humility means being grounded.

Today we will discuss all you need to know about Humility. Why we need to be humble and the importance of Humility in our community.

How do you feel when injustice is done to you? A humble person knows when to back down and not to fight for Authority. A humble person knows when to step back, even when demanding their right seems logical.

We need to acknowledge that there is a spiritual order in the universe, and Humility comes from accepting the order of Authority. When we understand our place in the order of things, we realize the foolishness of taking our desires and achievement too seriously.

Obey the Lord, be humble, and you will get riches, honor, and long life, Proverbs 22:4.

Humility is essential for maintaining a good relationship with God, people, and ourselves. We must humble ourselves to God and acknowledge him for who He is in the order of the universe.

Do you know anyone arrogant or narcissistic? Do you consider yourself humble?

How do you identify a humble person?

  • A humble person does not think they are better than any other person
  • A humble person is polite and considerate, self-aware, and possesses stronger self-control
  • A humble person is aware they are not perfect
  • A humble person allows other people to learn and grow with them
  • A humble person takes responsibility for their actions
  • A humble person is grateful

I recently listened to a podcast about leadership; the guest said, “Whoever is the greatest should be the servant of the others. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.”

Why is Humility essential?

A humble person respects God. A humble person calls on God to help in their personal goals and targets. The prayer of a humble person is, ‘Lord bless my plans so they can be successful.

Humility is vital in our community because it makes us better leaders, learners, and thinkers.

There are some essential characteristics of Humility. A humble person must be genuine, confident, grateful, strong, and willing to help others.

Humility is the heavenly virtue that requires us to know our origin and acknowledge God.
